√ Substances作為一種描述文件被存儲在一個文本文檔裡,而是不作為一個固定的位圖設定來存儲。

√ Substance文件通常被打包成Parkage(封包、軟件包)。一個單一Parckage(封包、軟件包)可以包含成千上萬的Substances,但是它本身卻是一個很小的文件。它可以在只有2千自己的空間裡存儲2萬種紋理材質。而一個單一的傳統紋理貼圖,通常的存儲空間遠遠超過這個數字,所以僅僅是這個優勢,我們也有理由使用Substance。

√ 存儲Substances描述文件和矢量圖像是一樣的。這意味著它們可以更容易在高分辨率下被渲染,而且不會出現明顯的質量損失。(在實踐中,大部分的Substances在最大分辨率下運行時,都會比我們預想添加的效果好更多)

√ 每一個Substance裡的自定義變量稱之為參數,Substance就可以在渲染時修改這個參數了。例如:一個」木板」Substance,可能會只使用一個變量,但是這個變量可以產生各種各樣的木紋圖案——但是所有的一切只是一個單一Substance。所以,一個Substance可以取代許多傳統的紋理材質。
